Combat report: 9 April 1945 |
(2 Me108s)
I was Black Leader and engaged on on an Armed Recce of the Weser bridgehead. WHilst flying on an easterly course in the area of Fassberg aerodrome I sighted an aircraft flying low in approx. the same direction. I dived down to attack, recognising the a/c as an Me 108, and experienced difficulty in avoiding an overshhot. I positioned myself behind him and gave a 2-3 sec. burst from 300 yards closing to 80 yards allowing 10 degrees deflection, obtaining strikes near the cockpit. I overshot towards the end of my attack and as I broke away, I saw the enemy aircraft dive down and level out at deck level. After Black 2 had also attacked the a/c, Black 3 and 4 saw it crash in flames in some woods.
After I had broken round to starboard, I saw further two Me108s approx. 50 feet above the ground. With my number 2 firing at the starboard aircraft, which crashed in a field in flames I attacked the port aircraft, giving a 3 sec. burst at 200 yards closing to 50 yards allowing 30 degrees deflection. I obtained strikes on the fuselage and cockpit and the aircraft burst into flames and crashed from about 20 feet in a field about 100 yards from the a/c shot down by my No.2.
Claim: 2 Me108s destroyed

Note: The aircrafts were later identified (by a clip from the combat film) as Ar96s.
