 MW404 and MW758 at former
RAF Hemswell Airbase?

These photos were taken by Ian Wilkinson in the yard of a small fabrication company which is located (he believes) in what was the cinema of the former RAF Hemswell airbase. This is located north of Lincoln just to the west of the A15 road to Scunthorpe (both in Lincolnshire). The airfield is north of RAF Scampton.

The identity of these Tempests is not absolutely certain. But it's most likely MW404 and MW758 on the photos, but there are possibly more parts under the tarpaulin. The wing section marked HA591 is probably the wing originally belonging to the fuselage now owned by Nelson Ezell. In India the wings were separate from the fuselages at the time of sale. When they then arrived to England, the purchasers "picked and mixed" at the front end of the queue. Hence the mix of fuselages and wings. It's possible that these Tempests are part of Tempest Two Ltd.

Update 4 December 2009:

MW 404 is now for sale: MW404 for sale!

Ian Wilkinson went down to Hemswell early morning on February 19th to see if he could get any further information on the Tempests. To his surprise the fuselages and wings have been removed - see photos below for what remains (very little).
